LONDON: Ruben Amorim admitted Manchester United “need to change” after a humiliating 4-3 defeat at Brentford last night, underlining the problems facing the Red Devils boss.
Kevin Schade scored twice at the GTech Community Stadium as United’s worst Premier League campaign worsened, with their winless run in the league extending to six games.
Amorim made eight changes to his starting line-up as he rested key players after the 3-0 win at Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of last week’s Europa League semi-final.
Fielding the third-youngest starting line-up in EPL history – with an average age of 22 years and 270 days – United’s rookies failed to avoid a 12th defeat in 24 league games under Amorim.
Since replacing the sacked Erik ten Hag last November, Amorim has failed to restore United’s form and reputation.
United are stranded in 15th place as they try to avoid their worst finish since relegation in 1973-74.
Amorim has criticised United’s players several times before and he once again admitted there was a need to make an end-of-season shake-up of his squad.
“It describes our season. We started well and dominated well, we struggled with set-pieces and throw-ins so we knew we would struggle against them,” he said.
“The players need to understand we can’t do this anymore, we are aware of the context of this season and we need to change it.”
